SAFETY POLICY
Under the Occupational Health and
Safety Act (OHSA) of Ontario, Holstead & Redmond Limited has
prepared and reviews annually a written occupational health and
safety policy. We have a program in place to implement this policy.
We fully understand the act and we fullfil its obligations as an
employer. An office consolidation of the act is available for
viewing, for the employees, at all time in our office. Our employees
are aware of this policy and plan.
All work on the premises and on all project sites is conducted in
accordance with the OHSA and its regulations. The office has a
designated individual in charge of supervision under the OHSA.
Each party chief in our field crews is the designated individual in
charge of supervision under the OHSA.
There are limited hazards identified within the office environment
(drafting services ). Emergency lighting, sprinkler system and fire
extinguishers are present and operational in the building. Fully
stocked first aid kit is present in a designated area. All
electrical devices are equipped with surge protected backup power
supplies. All workstations are ergonomically designed to limit any
repetitive injuries that are associated with this type of work. All
office equipment is service through an Equipment Preventative
Maintenance Program.
All field staff is equipped with safety glasses, current issue, hard
hats, and safety boots. The boots are worn at all times. The hats
and glasses are worn where required or deemed to be used where one
is unsure of the hazards present. All vehicles are equipped with
back up beepers and a 360 degree amber light. The light is mounted
on sites where required. The crews comply with the Traffic Control
manual for Roadway Work Operations. Each vehicle is equipped with
adequate signage for work on roadways or construction sites and
safety vests. Each Party chief is responsible for verifying what
safety measures are in place for each project worked on. Each
vehicle is equipped with a fully stocked first aid kit.
All field equipment is serviced through an Equipment Preventative
Maintenance Program. The individual operating the chain saw has
taken the proper chain saw safety training.
On Lafarge Canada Inc. sites, all our staff, working on the site,
have been given a safety orientation seminar and have been provided
with breathing protection for the hazards of this site. Most project
sites now have a safety orientation that our staff is required to
participate in. This orientation refreshes the standards safety
measures that should be followed and also identifies any safety
concerns particular to the project at hand.
Each individual's resume, included identifies the safety training
acquired. All staff have been briefed on the potential hazards
present in their work environment. In addition, we have included a
current Worker's Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) certificate, so that
that you can verify that we have had no accidents of fatalities in
the last five years and also as evidence of insurance coverage. We
have never had an OHSA stop work order issued against our firm.
I hope the above satisfies the sections and concerns associated with
Occupational Health and Safety Act. Should there be any further
details required, please feel free to contact Patrick Levac, being
the OHSA supervisor and First Aid/C.P.R. trained person on site in
the office. Our policy is available upon request.
